Radiotech’s Ground Penetrating Radar Services Provided To Melbourne
Radiotech is one of the leading providers of ground penetrating radar services in Melbourne specialising in underground survey. Radiotech provides REAL 3D GPR SURVEYING using MALA Imaging Radar Arrays (MIRA).
Our GPR uses non destructive testing and can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting and research.
We also provide radar concrete scanning, utility surveys, electromagnetic surveys, underground cable fault location and pavement surveys. All of these can be combined to give a full report.
Radiotech carries an extensive accreditation, training and experience across many industries.
Accreditations & Training Include

Complimentary Services
Radar Concrete Scanning, a GPR investigation for ground slabs to provide construction detail and steel reinforcement layout for avoidance purposes. Other structures can also be investigated to provide a combined Utility and Structural investigation
GeoRadar ( or Ground Radar ) for underground location of non metallic services, arbitrary objects and possible obstructions such as large rocks or underground storage tanks, GeoRadar can also provide important stratigraphic information such as depth to bedrock. Ground Penetrating Radar imaging can radically enhance site GIS data
Ferrous metal detection for location of hidden pit covers and other ferrous metal objects such as buried oil drums and metal debris.
Conductivity Survey for bulk soil conductivity measurements for fast reconnaissance on large sites, great for targeting drilling programs, can also detect metal objects.
Schmidt Hammer equipment for in situ testing of concrete MPA.
Underground Utility Location for safe excavation around services and utilities, prevents costly damage and down time. Findings can be mapped using highly accurate GPS and can be incorporated with other surveys.
Soil Conductivity Investigation Survey
Electromagnetic Survey
Soil conductivity investigation around Melbourne coastal areas using our all terrain vehicle towing a custom made equipment mounting trailer. This system can cover many hectares a day under the right conditions, great for early reconnaissance on large sites.
Radar Investigation
GPR Investigation
Radiotech were commissioned to perform investigation works along the Yarra River in Melbourne on old wharf infrastructure as part of the on going South Wharf development project. As you can imagine, there are virtually no records remaining from the original construction so Radar investigation is an invaluable tool to assist with forward planning.
What is Ground Penetrating Radar?
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
The technology uses electromagnetic (EM) waves transmitted from an antenna (which reflects on layers and objects in the ground. These reflections are received with an antenna (Rx) and create a picture of the subsurface. As the transmitting and receiving antenna is moved along the surface, recordings are collected and displayed side by side, resulting in a cross section, also known as radar profile.
GPR can be used in a variety of media including rock, soil, ice, fresh water, concrete, pavements and structures, and it can detect objects, voids, cracks and changes in material.
The resolution and investigation depth is depending on the antenna frequency used; most often ranging from 10 MHz to 2.3 GHz. High frequency antennas give high resolution images but low penetration, and low frequency antennas gives better penetration depth with lower resolution.
